Letter: Salmon snaggers run a risk

I would just like to pass out this message to all of the salmon fisherman out there who would like to continue to catch salmon in future years. Don't keep snagged fish.

First of all, it is illegal, and there will be a ticket and a fine should you be caught keeping them. Second, if you keep female fish that are getting ready to spawn, you are wrecking the population for future years to come.

Also, people who snag salmon give those of us who jig for salmon a bad name. I am 13 years old. When someone asks me how I fish, and I tell them I enjoy jigging, they assume that I snag my catches. That is not how it is. A real sportsman will release fish that are snagged. I hope this gets my point across.
