Two new members on water commission
Chico Enterprise Record - 3/5/03
Two new commissioners have been added to the Butte County Water Commission
recently. Ray Auerbach, general manager of the Paradise Irrigation District,
has replaced outgoing commissioner Frank Caunt.
John Carlon of Sacramento River Partners, Tuesday replaced outgoing Commissioner
Les Heringer.
Auerbach was appointed by Supervisor Kim Yamaguchi and took his seat
at the commission last month. He said he's looking forward to trying to
rebuild relationship within the county on water issues such as groundwater.
He worked in Southern California before coming to Butte County and has
knowledge of groundwater recharge facilities and flood control.
"Hopefully I can add something," Auerbach said. "Part
of it is to be involved and make sure people understand what (Paradise
Irrigation District) is doing to be a team player."
Carlon was appointed by Supervisor Jane Dolan.
"As a farmer I'm concerned about protecting the water for the agricultural
economy," Carlon said. "I also have a strong interest in water
use as it relates to conservation goals."
"We're running out of water," Carlon said.
Carlon's day job is at Sacramento River Partners, a local nonprofit with
the mission statement to "restore riparian habitat for the benefit
of people and the environment," along the Sacramento River.
He received his bachelor's degree in agriculture from Chico State and
his master's from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
